R-VALUE
R-value is a measurement taken in a laboratory which evaluates resistance to heat
flow. Current NC codes require R-13 in the walls and R-30 in the ceiling, however we highly recommend increasing to R-15 and R-38, especially since there is no significant price difference when using batt solutions.
Since this measurement does not take into account air infiltration and
moisture penetrating through walls, it is only part of the formula. R-value rating for
a home can be increased through completely sealing the building tight with SPF
and using a ventilation system to regulate moisture and balance indoor air
pressures.
